The Unexpected Book That Changed My Style Forever

It was a crisp autumn morning when I caught my reflection in the mirror—something felt different. After months of dedicated self-work and fitness training (which you can read more about in my blog post “Beyond the Scale: A Letter to Women Chasing External Validation”), I wasn't just seeing physical changes; I was witnessing the emergence of someone new—someone who finally felt at home in her own skin. The woman staring back at me had a sparkle in her eyes that spoke of self-discovery and growing confidence.

While documenting my transformation journey for a podcast, I felt a deeper calling stirring within. I wanted to inspire other women to discover their authentic selves, but something was missing. That's when a serendipitous discovery - a book that would become my personal brand bible - unexpectedly changed the course of my journey. (Want to know which book transformed my style journey? Read my blog post “The Mindful Style Evolution Guide: Transforming Your Wardrobe Through Self-Discovery & Personal Branding")

Hidden within its pages, Chapter 13 posed a question that stopped me in my tracks: "What do you want to be known for?" The words echoed in my mind as I created my first Pinterest board dedicated to style. Each pin became more than just an image—it was a piece of the woman I was becoming—elegant, sophisticated, authentic.

With 174 carefully curated pins reflecting my vision, I took a leap of faith and signed up for a styling app service. I remember the anticipation as I uploaded my Pinterest board, hoping my stylist would understand the story I wanted to tell through my clothes.

The journey wasn't without its challenges. My first package arrived, and my heart sank - the pieces didn't match my envisioned elegance. But something inside me knew to trust the process. Twelve packages later, I stood before a closet that finally told my story. Each piece whispered of the woman I had become - confident, purposeful, and graceful.

Looking back, I realize this transformation was never just about clothes. It was about honoring my inner growth with my outer expression. Today, whether I'm shopping at Nordstrom or reviewing my next shipment, I choose pieces that align with my authentic self. I'm no longer just dressing my body; I'm dressing my soul.

And that woman in the mirror? She now radiates the confidence she feels inside, wrapped in elegance that tells her story without saying a word. This is how I learned to show up in the world - with style, grace, and, most importantly, authenticity.

Your Turn to Reflect:

  • When you look in the mirror, does your reflection tell the story you want to share with the world?

  • What would your personal style evolution look like if you let your inner transformation guide your choices?

  • How can you begin crafting a wardrobe that honors who you are and who you're becoming?

Ever caught yourself in the mirror feeling disconnected from your reflection? I've been there - when your inner growth outpaces your outer expression.

My style transformation journey was full of trial and error, and I wish I'd had someone to guide me through it.
